Jesus' Coffin

Check out this story from TIME's blog, which reveals a new claim to have unearthed the coffin of Jesus Christ, May Magdalene and their son, Judah - complete with bodies. And who's the spokesman for this archaeological achievement of the millennium? Some bespectacled scientist you've never heard of? No, ladies and gentlemen, that would be James Cameron. That's right. The man who brought you Titanic.

Why is it that when things like this happen, there has to be a celebrity involved to lend 'credibility'? If anything, this story makes me think, "Hey, why would I believe the guy who directed 'Terminator' that my Lord and Saviour apparently didn't rise from the dead?"

I mean, really. James Cameron? On the surface that makes this laughable to the point of contempt. I suppose if it was just some archaeologist we had never heard of, however, TIME wouldn't give the claim even this little bit of publicity.

My recommendation is that the next time they dig something out of the earth and try and to use it to destroy Christianity, they at least get Harrison Ford to help out. Even I would listen to Indiana Jones.

Blue Like Jazz in Sudanese

As probably one of the few people (along with Ryan) who has ever read Blue Like Jazz in Sudan (although certainly not in Sudanese, which I am fairly certain isn't an actual language), I thought this post was pretty funny.

The tone of the post is a bit harsh, but I thought it was amusing that Doctor Moore picked Sudan as his example. He's right though, nobody's reading Donald Miller. I think there might be a little TD Jakes and Benny Hinn around, though.

Is Keith Urban the Next Rembrandt?

I ran across this article today. It says that country music singer Keith Urban is suing some painter in New Jersey who owns the domain keithurban.com for misleading people into thinking that the paintings for sale on the site were produced by the singer.

Now, as a casual glance at the site will attest, this is obviously not the guy who's dating Nicole Kidman. Even the lame attempt at suggest such, "to those who don't know, oil painting is one of my hobbies," is not likely to fool anyone. But then again, this is the Internet.

All I know is, any genius capable of painting something of this magnitude deserves recognition:

Africa - Where the Losers are Winners

Here's a great article from the New York Times about a puzzling overseas phenomenon - why Africans (and Indians, and Romanians) wear t-shirts proclaiming last year's Super Bowl losers the winners.

Seriously, you see it all the time overseas, right alongside the Sadaam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden shirts, and the umpteen million 50 Cent shirts that Africans seem to absolutely love, regardless of whether or not they've ever heard the guy's music.

It's really quite interesting how our culture gets exported overseas; just a little more friendly imperialism from your friends in the U.S. of A.

What's Going On

It's been quite awhile since I've posted anything to the old blog, which is more a sign of laziness than anything else. A lot has been going on, though, so I thought I'd get on an update.

I moved to Louisville 2 weeks ago to start school at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. I've spent the last couple of weeks visiting old friends, hanging out with new ones, and getting to know the lay of the land and whatnot.

Hopefully I'll be more proactive this semester in updating this thing to let you know what's going on with me. In the meantime, here's an interesting article on how "A Calvinist Faces Death."
